requirement
Every religious congregation wants to amplify their message and connect with the community at large. One such church- St Joseph’s Church in Kuriachira, Kerala, which has been a spiritual beacon for thousands in Kerala with captivating architecture was undergoing renovation. As part of its recent innovation, it required an aesthetically pleasing audio solution. One that could reach 2500 people praying and soak them in immersive sound.
To create the audio solution for such a massive structure, the parish leadership sought the expertise of the system integrator Zacs and Phills® and Alphatec AV. Together, these teams chose the best of the AV brands that sounded clear.
The
challenge
Every AV installation comes with its own architectural and other challenges. This project also entailed a host of them challenging to opt for the respective brands with the desired technology. The circular architecture of the church posed a challenge to ensure optimum sound coverage and intelligibility. The dome and towering ceilings further led to extended reverberation times, making speech clarity a concern. The reflective surfaces like the granite flooring and largely untreated walls created issues.
Further the audio solution had to ensure speech clarity to accommodate over 2500 devotees with consistent, feedback-free sound throughout the vast sanctuary.
The
Solution
The team of Zacs and Phils® headed by Manu Philip has a deep experience with ecclesiastical audio design. Alphatec AV’s team headed by Mayank Gaurav further added his layer of technical experience to devise a befitting audio solution. The complete audio solution included
from microphones, monitors, speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, signal processors.
The expert teams chose Japanese brand Audio Technica’s range of microphones, Tannoy and Behringer and Turbosound speakers, to deliver audio coverage across the church. Further subwoofers integrated to add warmth and fullness to music and liturgy, enriching the lower frequency range without overpowering the space.
The
IMPACT
The audio solution ticked the requirement checklist and impressed the stakeholders. The speakers ensured flawless performances with zero feedback, with exceptional clarity and speech intelligibility. Balanced, natural music reproduction enhanced the worship without distraction. Overall the audio solution is a thoughtful integration of technology and trust into the century old place of peace and prayers amplifying the traditions.
